It’s 2013, time for some housekeeping

Okie! So we survived another year.

Time for housekeeping.

Gnomespun:

I guess the first order of business is to state the obvious that I, and Gnomespun are still here. We’re going to continue to be here for… some period of time that will likely be longer than a month and shorter than forever. Yay for specifics, am I right? Anyone? Yeah, me either.

The Website:

I’ve updated some of the bones of the blog and other stuff you won’t see, but I hope to get from that to some updates to the site soon. However, in addition to being a Biochemist, I’m now also working on another project (or maybe two, depending if certain people ever move), so I can’t really give you a time course.

Commissions/Projects/”Sure, I can do that”:

As happens, things get busy and things slide off the bottom of the “do when you have a second” list. It seems to be the problem with this “not actually having a second” thing. If I told you I would do something for you, a colorway, a fiber, and you have not heard from me recently about it… your project probably falls into this category. If you fall into both this category and the exclusive, “Hey, I’d actually still really like to have that” category, then please feel free to drop me an email ( dan@gnomespunyarn ) and I will put you back on the list, and see if I can’t get your project done sooner rather than later.

Updates:

I’m, uh… going to try to have more of them. How’s the for concrete? Because you guys like fiber, and I like paying my bills. As usual, feel free to ask if there’s anything you’d like to see more of. I can try to work it into an update, since normally I just kind of run with my mood and inspiration.

And… um… I’m fairly certain I have missed something. Apparently I need a to do list about my to do list. Or maybe I really haven’t forgotten anything. Anyway! Oh, right, that was the other thing. I’d like to have more content posts, but I decided I should really keep my Gnomespun new year resolutions to a short enough list I might actually manage them all. Still, it’s a thought to keep in my head.

And now, some happy dogs.

Gnomespun and the Future

So, it’s a new year!

The latest Mythic Fiber Club is finally mailed out, the latest big update is up, and… the world turns. Which means it’s time to talk about the future. Gnomespun’s and mine. Don’t worry, I’m not closing it down. I still have to pay bills for the foreseeable future.

However, I have something new starting. I’m going to be volunteering in a toxicology lab at UMass Amherst. This is definitely a good thing.

After all the up and down and back and forth over jobs, I’ve ended up going 2 years without active science on my resume. This is not so great a situation for trying to get a job in this economy with the government cutting funding to just about everyone who funds biologists. So now that’s ending, and I’m putting active science back on the resume, getting a new letter of recommendation, some new skills, etc. If I’m really lucky, maybe I’ll even get a new publication.

It does mean my time will be compressed. This is pretty much a full time position, plus 2 hours of commute every day. So, what does this all mean to you guys? It means there won’t be a winter Mythic Fiber Club. I’m still hoping to do another one in spring. There will be updates, but I don’t know right now how frequent or large they will be since I will be dyeing on nights and weekends.

So! Gnomespun will continue to be around, but slightly different for the next 3-4 months.

That’s all for now!
